It’s Daylight Savings Time Again!

Daylight Savings Time is here again and people need to adjust again. This doesn’t only include setting your clocks to the new time frame but also conditioning your body clock to new sleeping habits where clocks will be adjusting to one hour in advance.

This takes place at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March each and every year, and then reverses on the first Sunday in November every year. Like it or not, you just have to do it. Unless you are in Hawaii or Arizona, you better start adjusting those clocks to make sure you don’t end up being late for an appointment or even for work.

Paltrow Seeking More Sleep

Just when you thought that actress Gwyneth Paltrow has everything in order, she reveals that she too has been having problems with sleeping comfortably. Paltrow admits that she doesn’t get enough sleep and has even turned to a book, “Light’s Out: Sleep, Sugar and Survival” by T.S. Wiley to get some sensible shuteye.

Some of Paltrow’s health concerns she discussed with her doctor include aging and hormonal imbalances, something that affects some women in their mid to late 30s. Paltrow’s doctors advised her to get some natural sunlight everyday, relaxation techniques before bed, eliminating caffeine and an adequate fitness regime to help her get at least eight hours of solid sleep per night.

Day Care Workers Charged for Giving Kids Sleep Supplements

Two former day care workers from Ohio have been charged with three counts of child endangering and three counts each of misrepresentation by childcare provider for slipping an OTC supplement into candies to make kids sleep during nap time.

Parents complained that their kids looked groggy after being picked up from the day care and were notified of the malpractice when a co-worker notified police in December that Hartley and Scott gave the children melatonin in candy. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that helps control sleeping and waking cycles. Possible side effects of the supplement form include dizziness, abdominal discomfort, headaches, confusion, sleepwalking and nightmares.

Pamela Hartley and Donna Scott got most serious charges that could be applied.

The Sleep Deprived Capital of the UK is Aberdeen

For any country or region, there will be a place that will solicit the tag of being the “Sleep Deprived Capital”. And as far as the United Kingdom is concerned, the unlikely tag is pointing to Aberdeen after a survey was conducted. According to the collected information, people over there slept just 5 hours and 23 minutes a night.

People in the UK at an average enjoy six hours and seven minutes, which is far lesser than the recommended eight hours of sleep every night. And like most of us, the main cause were identified as money problems, inappropriate environment at work, troubles in family, and relationship issues.
