Sleep Technician Training

SLEEP TECHNICIAN TRAINING:

One of the most important factors to running a successful sleep lab, is having skilled sleep technicians on staff. Friendly, skilled sleep technicians make the sleep study experience less stressful for patients. Skilled sleep technicians produce quality, artifact free sleep study recordings. Artifact free sleep study recordings improve sleep study scoring accuracy, which improves the interpretation of the sleep study. Finally, the interpretation accuracy of the sleep study directly relates to greater patient compliance. As you can see, the sleep technician plays a major role in the success of and the accuracy of a sleep study.

With this in mind, our sleep technician training program creates the foundation that the sleep technician will use to build his/her career upon. The sleep technician training program is setup to teach a new sleep technician the basic principles of sleep disorder testing. The sleep technician training program includes the following steps: 1) Intro to sleep disorder testing - Equipment, electrical signals, amplifiers etc… 2) Sleep lab policy and procedure guidelines. 3) General computer use, sleep software used for both collection and archiving. 4) Patient information input, initial patient paperwork and intake. 5) Electrode and sensor placement, signals, hookup, and impedence check. 6) Bedtime procedure, impedences, calibration, bio cals, lights out. 7) Sleep study collection, observation, documentation and troubleshooting. 8) Lights on, ending the study, archiving the data and final paperwork. 9) Unhooking the patient, wire and sensor cleaning procedures. 10) Sleep lab cleanup, supplies and inventory. We stress technical and clinical awareness a sleep technician will need to produce an artifact free sleep study.

The sleep technician training is done in your sleep lab to allow your sleep technician to become familiar with both the sleep lab and the equipment they will be using on a day to day basis. They will learn in an on-the-job environment working side by side with our sleep technician. This will make them semi-productive from day one!

By the end of the training cycle, the sleep technician will be able to complete a sleep study from start to finish unassisted. They will be signed off on all of the training phases. This will in some degree include cpap titrations. However, additional oversight by a senior sleep technician will be needed to complete the cpap titration training. This can be done with your sleep technician or Sleep Technology Services can provide additional training time to include the cpap titration phase of training. In addition to new sleep technician training, MSLT sleep study training, sleep study scoring and cpap titration training is also available.
